Like a lot of people, I'm alarmed and disgusted by the illegal actions and general contempt of the current US government.
When I get worried about something, apparently one way I cope is building websites.
My latest is The Democracy Habit. It serves two purposes (always a bad idea, but an apt reflection of my diverse interests):
- sharing encouraging news and helpful perspectives
- offering a gentle introduction to contacting elected representatives and general civic involvement for folks who might like to start doing that
There are so many things I'd like to post - short profiles on some of the dedicated public servants working in our government; calls to action for all kinds of issues; highlights of grassroots organizations who are making a difference. I could easily make it a full-time job - heck, two full-time jobs - but alas, I already have more work than I can easily manage, so I'm having to add snippets of info to the site when I'm taking quick breaks from work.
I don't know if anyone will ever find it particularly helpful, but it feels good to me, having a place to put some of these thoughts, and after all, that's one of the great things about blogs and personal websites - having a place to share whatever seems worthwhile, offering it up to whoever might come across it.
