Ted Lasso and Severance on DVD

I loved Ted Lasso; I loved every episode I watched when I had an Apple TV subscription a couple of years ago. I was disappointed that Apple seemed unlikely to release it on DVD; I would have loved to buy it.

I just started watching Severance a few weeks ago when Apple had it's free trial weekend, and I love it just as much, even though it's a very different show. It's the first show I've watched in a long time that delights me every bit as much with the craft and skill of the production as with the story and writing and acting. It's fantastic, and I was dismayed to think that it, too, would probably never get a DVD release.

Then, very recently, when I was browsing DVDs in my library's online catalog, I discovered that both shows had been released on DVD! I didn't think Apple would ever do such a thing, so I didn't bother to check regularly. I am very happy to see both shows get a DVD release. (Severance only has the first season on DVD so far, unsurprisingly, but I hope Apple will continue to release all future seasons.

My main motivation for owning the DVDs is knowing I'll be able to watch them whenever I like, even if Apple decides to drop them from their service someday; but watching these shows on Apple's streaming service over the past few weeks has made me painfully aware of the other huge benefit of getting these on DVD: I hate Apple's pre-episode teasers for other shows and their incredibly annoying unilateral decision to shrink the screen when the credits start. I like to watch the credits, and having to jump up and click just the right spot in the stupid little shrunken display, and miss several seconds for my trouble, is infuriating. I expect Apple to let me control things like that, and every single time that happens, I get angry with Apple all over again for not giving me the option to stop that behavior.

So - I'm really looking forward to getting to re-watch Ted Lasso and Severance without Apple's bull-headed and intrusive interference with my enjoyment of the show.

Hurray for DVDs!
