I was listening to my Familiar and Unfamiliar playlist a few weeks ago and iTunes queued up "A Minor Variation" from Billy Joel's River of Dreams.
iTunes helpfully tells me that I added the album to my library 8 years ago - in June 2015 - but I've somehow never listened to that song until this year.
In fact, I've only listened to one other track on the album ("All About Soul").
I'm pretty amazed that I'd never heard the track before - I liked it a lot. How had I never heard this before?
It's one of the things that delights me about iTunes - that it can hang on to albums I've bought, and remind me of them years later.
I buy a lot of used CDs at library book sales, and I don't always sit down to play them through right away.
I think I'll make some time to listen to the whole thing sometime soon.
(Huh. Looking back through my iTunes library, it looks like I bought Storm Front and The Raw and the Cooked by Fine Young Cannibals and Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall at the same time. I haven't listened to any of The Raw and the Cooked - although I know "She Drives Me Crazy" and "Good Thing" well enough to play them in my head. Guess I'll have to make LOTS of time for listening to my 8-year-old purchases.)
