Ask a Manager is one of my favorite sites these days; I love the experience and compassion in Alison Green's answers.
She's been adding more great round-ups of little anecdotes from readers - shared workspaces gone wrong, broken systems no one will change, out-of-control office competitions.
She recently posted a collection of cool and unusual work perks. I loved all of them, but especially the first five. (Although the pudding sounds pretty great, too.)
I used to do a lot of contracting for Apple - way back in the early 90s - and one of the buildings had free pinball machines all over the building. It was great to get to play Funhouse over and over in between meetings.
Working for myself, I sometimes joke about "my boss" - my boss is terrible about giving me time off, but at least my boss doesn't micromanage. Heh.
But I haven't thought about nice little things I could do for myself on the job.
Aside from the excellent commute (none) and complete control over my office space, I wonder what other little perks a self-employed person could offer?
I'll have to see what I can come up with. Probably not fancy shoes, though.
