A Country Year - Now Reading

I really, really enjoyed reading Sue Hubbell's A Book of Bees, so I picked up A Country Year at the library.

I'm about two-thirds of the way through - partway into the "Winter" chapter - and I keep putting off reading more, because I don't want it to end.

Sue is such a lovely writer. Her voice is at once no-nonsense and filled with awe and delighted humility at the wonders of the natural world around her.

I love to learn things, and I love to read about her learning things - observing how bees respond to cockroaches in their hives, learning how different trees respond to having more or less room to grow, figuring out how to use a winch to free her chainsaw from a massive tree she's felling.

Much as I will hate to reach the end of this book, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of "Winter" and "Spring" - and I want to pick up more of her books soon.
