I love Bill Nighy, and when I came across a headline about Mary Nighy, the last name piqued my interest, so I got to read a really interesting interview about Mary Nighy's career, and her first film as a director.
I enjoyed reading about her childhood, spending time in rehearsal rooms while her mother was acting, and about her own experiences as a mom raising two young daughters.
But my favorite part was her relaying the advice she got from another director, Autumn de Wilde:
De Wilde’s advice was to channel Mary Poppins. Nighy talks me through it: “On the first day, calmly and gently lay out your house rules. If anything goes wrong, don’t scream or shout. Just firmly and clearly explain that this is not the way to behave: we don’t do that in our house. It’s a brilliant analogy.”
I suspect Nighy will have a lot to say, and a lot of good films to create, over the coming years. I'm looking forward to seeing what she does, and to hearing more about how she does it.
