I grew up on pop music. I still like a lot of pop. I really like 70's rock, and I've come to a whole new appreciation of Bowie, Joni Mitchell - a lot of stuff I underappreciated when it was on the radio. (And sure, I'm still a big Styx fan. I really love Big Bang Theory, especially Tommy's songs.)
But I'm learning to like classical, and I'm learning to love jazz. I've had excellent introductions to a lot of things, and I'm particularly fond of Johnny Hodges (thanks to Jon Carroll), Billy Strayhorn (so you can imagine how much I love Johnny Hodges doing "A Flower is a Lovesome Thing"), Vince Guaraldi (yes, the entire Peanuts oevre is wonderful, but HE does "A Flower is a Lovesome Thing," too, and all KINDS of other cool stuff), and Bill Evans.
I find jazz to be one of the most complex, intriguing, simultaneously intellectual and emotional, beautiful, difficult, provocative things in the world. I love finding my way into it.
